I am 52 years old and currently reside in Southeast Arkansas. I am a member of a small country Missionary Baptist Church.
I am not a Seminary or University trained theologian. I am just a regular guy, who loves God and God’s Word. I also happen to love to study and write. So, here I am!
I would like to deliver just a brief testimony. I was quite lost until I was 45 years old; prior to that I really cannot say just what I believed. I bounced back and forth between believing in some god, agnosticism, and almost outright atheism. The truth is, like most people, I simply did not want to relinquish control of my life to any God. I finally found myself attending church on a semi regular basis, thanks to the repeated invitations of a dear friend. I mostly just went to be considerate to my friend. After I got bored with that, God saw fit to put a pretty girl in my sights and I began attending church with her, as those are the rules; if you date the church girl you have to go to church if you want to hang around on Sundays. It was in that church, however, that I finally heard the truth about my sinful condition, my ultimate destiny, the Grace of God through Jesus Christ and how I could escape that destiny.

Hi, I’m here from i53:5 Project. On his blog he posts about you claiming that you gave your children an upbringing of atheist indoctrination that you can’t undo. Give your religion, I understand that must be very hard for you, but I do have to ask: what is atheist indoctrination?

I am glad to answer that question. First of all, indoctrination is not a bad word. We all pass our world views on to the people around us, including and specifically our children. I taught mine many things, depending on what I thought I believed at the time. And, what I believed varied from year to year. So, honestly it’s hard to pin down precisely what I taught. What I did not teach was that we are sinners, unable to save ourselves and in need of a redeemer. Sometimes I taught them that God might be real and might not. Sometime I taught them that God would have to be a monster to send us all to Hell(that was popular). Other times I mocked and laughed at Christians as stupid and intolerant(also very popular). I taught them that they were basically good and that would save them if Heaven happened to be real. I was only a pretend atheist, however, as I knew all along in my heart that God was real. Looking back, that is why I was pretty angry about it all. I didn’t want to surrender to any god, and that is the big thing they learned from me, that surrender is for sissies and they were just fine the way they were. That make sense?

Kind of. I feel it is mislabelled to call is an atheist indoctrination.
It sounds tough, to feel responsible for what you think is going to happen.
If it is any consolation (and I doubt it is), as far as I’m concerned, being basically good is great.

Well, being basically good is fine and dandy. We should all be good to each other. The problem is, being basically good leaves us in a real bind with God. I wrote about that here…feel free to read it.

Thanks for following The Well-Dressed Branch, Wally. I love these discussions, as unlike many discussions with skeptics, you keep them civil and based on God’s Truth.
As much as any other chapter in God’s Word, Isaiah 64 beckons us toward godliness; it includes statements of our inherent unworthiness, and God’s grace in the face of all that. I can’t praise Him enough for giving us His Word, both the written word and His incarnate Word. In every respect, His Word is Truth, and our only guide for a fulfilled life.

MT,
Amen to all you said. And we don’t have to be jerks. Those folks don’t intimidate me a bit, and I don’t mind calling them out if they stop making sense. But, you know, lots of folks reading discussions need to see some consideration. Planting seeds brother, our job is to plant seeds not provide the harvest. Thanks for your kind comments.

That is quite a testimony, Wally. As you know it is our testimonies of which God uses to turn others to Him.. We all have one, yet; the majority of people refuse to share it and this is a loss to both our fellow man and to God. Even an atheist or agnostic as a personal testimony, if they’d only share it…. “That they, like yourself, are unable to save themselves.” What a great testimony that would be…… and what an Honor, directly or indirectly, to God and His grace.
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless you and keep you always, wally.
Yours in Christ;

52-45=7yrs from 2014. you’ve been saved and reading the bible only since 2007? less than 10yrs? it’s no wonder you can’t understand me and my “his-story” of being a Christian since 1981 and a serious disciple/follower since 1989… you haven’t been where I’ve been, you don’t know what I know, you haven’t gone where I’ve gone. amazing, wally. there may be hope for you yet… when you have lived the Christian life and experienced more than just your ‘less than a decade’ church Christianity. you know very little and less than you think. but given time… perhaps the 15-20yrs my Christian walk has on you… you may understand.

As you hold a similar position to Madelyn re: abortion so I will ask you a similar question as I asked her: Why don’t you write posts that promote advancement in birth control technology that will, hopefully, one day see the almost complete abrogation of abortion. Wally, you didn’t need to publish that – I don’t mind that you did, but I just wanted to get it to you and had no intention of cluttering up your blog – you can still delete it if you like.

Hey ARch, It’s ok. Sometimes Word Press gets the best of me.
ARch, for some reason I like you and I really don’t know why. But, there you have it.
I did delete it, as it was really out of place there. But, you come by anytime. Seriously.

You’re a truly humble man, Wallace, not an egomaniac like CS – I’ll respond accordingly to your comments on other blogs, but I won’t come into your home and harass you.

You are welcome to respond on my blog. The problem is I primarily writed stuff to teach Christians. I can be fairly confident myself.

I read you guest post today while at another bloggers site. Though you and I are of different denominations , I found God when I was in the lowest ever point in life. Now I seek to know more of my Lord every chance I get. Reading the bible and reading what I call commentary from Christian bloggers keeps me Spiritually strong. My name is Howard Coughlin and iamsecond.

Hello Howard, what a pleasure to see you here! I find that I am not nearly so concerned about denominations as I used to be, as long as a person believes and teaches the true Gospel. Thanks for following and I hope you find a blessing.

Hold on a sec. I got this. WordPress has been doing this thing where you could click on someone’s blog, but it wouldn’t pop up.

I have two blogs, so would you like for me to send the other one? This blog is kind of like my place where I am not afraid of speaking out. My other one is like my main blog.

I think I will like the book reviews a lot. I don’t have much time to read, so book reviews are a good thing for me.
Your other one? Well I like the writing, not really a superhero fan to be honest.
Are you Swedish?

No, I am not Swedish. I am American. I had to do an essay for school, so I did one on the superhero’s. Thank you for the compliment though. Why do you ask if I am Swedish?

I made I Am Scarecrow my main blog for right now. I changed it because I wanted people to see what I am like outside of book reviews.
