This may only be semi-interesting to anybody, but here it is anyway. A few days back, I was not really able to write anything; the inspiration just wasn’t there. The consensus was: take a break. I guess that really wasn’t the point after all; I had just settled in to chill a bit when the almost overwhelming feeling hit me: “Make a website for the church.” So, I did. It’s a free WordPress one, so not fancy at all, but it’s got the content we need and is pretty flexible. I’m also an admin for our Facebook page now. It seems I am the self-appointed, by default, just because I would online coordinator for our church. In these days and times, that seems almost to be a necessity. Maybe it will be a good thing if there are folks looking around trying to make church decisions. Of all the churches in our county, we are now one of three who actually have a website.
Like I said, it’s not much, but here it is! Maybe someday, if this has an effect, the church will swing for a paid one with bells and whistles.

Congrats. That’s a very nice website. Simple to navigate and attractive with the pertinent information for those who check it out. I like. π

Sometimes God is preparing us for something else. Looks like He did in your case. His whispers to us are often overlooked. You listened, He spoke.

Very cool, Wally! Good for you. Our church has WP site. It really needs some work, some freshening up, but we do have one.

Lol, ours is 20 years old! All the content is up-to-date but the site itself is soooooooo old it won’t even render properly on a phone or tablet. Which is….well, it needs updating, but that won’t happen until the guy who currently does it dies or something. It’s one of those “why are we keeping this expired can of beans?” situations. The dude who does it is getting old, and hasn’t really kept up on the technology, and i think he’s intimidated by updating by having to learn something new…and you know how it goes. Its his own private little silo and he don’t let anybody near it. I once suggested we simply *hire* a web dev to create and maintain an up-to-date site (it’s really not that expensive), but that went over like a lead balloon…

Yeah nobody wants to spend money that way. I’m surprised it’s an issue in the Northwest, though. Seems it would be different to there

Exactly! People can really cling to things and become so territorial and possessive! I try to keep my sense of humor, but it still makes me crazy sometimes. π

Nice Wally! Whether they want to or not, Churches need to have an on line presence if they want to grow. It’s just the way of the world.

Nicely done! Today an online presence is as essential as a listing in the phone book once was. Most people go online for that kind of info nowadays

Visited – Nice Job! I am waiting for content/information from a client to get things set up for them for their church here – Will share the link with them – Nice to have the YouTube/Video captures – too – what a boon for those who may not be able to come to service due to illness etc. π

Thanks much. That means a lot since that is sort of what you do LOL. It’s not fancy, but our population base is a not very fancy population. So, simple is fine. Someday I’d like to have a really nice one and real video equipment and even the ability to live stream. But, that’s all for the future.

Well, yes, it IS what I do – but feel I must ‘enlighten you’ as to what I really do – – I plan for clean, fast loading, built on strong foundations of tools that update as they should – sites that are accessible, have good contrast and if video is wanted, that [CC] is included – I customize some post types to make updates on info fairly fast/easy for the customer and/or me (I maintain content/write content for all my clients but one – ) – IMHO- so much of this is getting lost in new design trends – new updates, etc., For instance – I’m still getting conflicting information on whether Gutenberg is “Accessible Ready” – and so – I still build sites the old way – using classic, UNTIL I have some confirmation of the accessibility side of things – :). That said, I live in an area with slow internet infrastructure, an area lagging 10-20 years behind having what so many take for granted and lagging in skills that would have been built, had infrastructure been available/affordable – sooner – :). So, in the end, I’m fairly low-key about saying what I do – because it doesn’t match up with the claims of the urban designers who take on projects – on the other hand, I frequently get clients who come to me and say, “I got a quote for a 1 page website – they want $4000 base.” and I know their business/organization, etc., and I think, “Are ya kiddin’ me?” – – :). But yes – it’s clean – it’s loads and plays well – If I moved to your neck of the woods – I would be able to quickly find the info I seek when getting my bearings in a new area – so, in my world, what’s not to love?!?

Very nice, Wally! I’ve noticed the current “trend” for church web sites is cold and minimalist. Why do they do that? They’re aping trending secular sites. Your site is warm and appealing. I like it!

Thanks much Tom. I looked at some slicker ones and found them off putting. I wanted it to be warm and inviting because I hope that’s what our church is.

My two favorite things to find when I first look at a website are there and easy to find: Beliefs and Times/Address. Too many churches neglect one or both. If you want me to attend, let me know what you believe and when you are doing things where! I also like the bible study being added, as well. Nice touch.

Thanks Daniel. I totally agree. If those two things are buried and hard to find, folks won’t waste much time. I appreciate your input!
