God Cares for His Children
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof,” Matthew 6:33, 34.
One of the repeating themes of Jesus’ teaching was in regard to financial stability. During His ministry, financial insecurity was a big problem for Jesus’ audience, so He constantly encouraged His listeners to place faith in God, trusting Him to provide what was needed. He exposed the error of trusting in money as opposed to trusting in God, claiming that they were mutually exclusive for believers. He reinforced this truth by reminding them that depending on money was risky since God was the One who created them and He knew exactly what they needed better than anyone else.
Followers of Jesus should have one primary concern, namely, pursuing and glorifying God with their lives. Those who put Him first will find that He can meet all of their other earthly needs. Jesus closed this section by reminding His listeners of the vanity of worrying about the future, since seeking God’s kingdom takes all the energy they could muster in the present.
We can find ourselves anxious about the future as well. We want to know for sure that everything will turn out fine. From time to time, we forget that God is in control and He knows what He is doing. If we spend our time, energy and resources pursuing and glorifying Him, we can be sure that He will take care of all our needs today and in the future. He loves us better than anyone else can, and He knows exactly what we need.
JUST A THOUGHT: Glorify God with all you have and trust Him with the rest.
