The Sure Promise of Jesus’ Return
John 14:1-7
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also,” John 14:3.
This verse should be very reassuring to every believer. Whether we go to Heaven via death or rapture, we will be with Jesus. One of the benefits of being a believer is that we have a reservation already in heaven; how we get there is up to the Father.
One day for certain Jesus is coming to call up His brothers and sisters to the Father’s house. He will come, a trumpet will sound, and all of the believers (the dead will rise first and then the living) will ascend to meet Him in the sky. (See 1 Thessalonians 4:15, 16.) And what is more—Jesus promised, “I will come again” (John 14:3). When that day will happen, only the Father knows.
The return of Jesus should make us wonder with great anticipation if it will be a day like today. Heavy fog hangs like a shroud in our area; today would be a great day to go to heaven. A hot, muggy, summer day with the cicada calling for a cool breeze would certainly be a great day for Jesus to split the eastern sky. Could Jesus return on a cool crisp morning with the sun breaking the horizon, the birds singing a cheerful morning concert accompanied by cooing doves? Any day, as a matter of fact, would be a great day for Jesus to come again!
REFLECTION: Are you ready for Jesus to return?
