Return to God
“Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?” Malachi 3:7.
God is reassuring Israel that He will come and judge them for their sin of rebellion. He reminds them that He does not change. He has warned them that He will judge them for disobedience and reward them for obedience. He also reminds them that their rebellion goes back to the time of their fathers. Their rebellion is nothing new to Him.
God reminds them of the great blessings that are waiting for them if they return to Him and serve Him. The nations around them will see the great blessings from God if they will just return. God also reminds them that their words have been strong against Him by accusing Him of moving away from them.
God is long-suffering towards all people, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). God longs for all people to be saved, and He longs for His children to return to Him and serve Him faithfully.
REFLECTION: Repent, believe, receive.
