Dealing Treacherously with a Spouse

Malachi 2:10-16

“Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant,” Malachi 2:14.

When sin is excused, it becomes acceptable and slowly consumes one’s life. During this time in Israel’s history, the people’s hearts were corrupted by false religions and idolatry. As a result of priests being unwilling to teach God’s truth about these ungodly practices, marriages and families fell into neglect and disarray. The people adopted and accepted some of the immoral practices followed by these ungodly religions, which led to the moral decay of the family unit. Marriage covenants were broken by the adulterous practices allowed by these false religions; then, when the home crumbles, society soon follows.

Sadly, the same has happened in our society today. Many have followed the morals promoted by the false religion called Hollywood. God’s Word has been ignored and demoted as old-fashioned and narrow-minded. As a result, sinful hearts grow wicked. Many men of God who have preached the truths of God’s Word have been attacked by the godless. Then the idea that good is bad and bad is good becomes the norm. It is almost impossible to climb back up from the cliff of sin when one has plunged down headfirst. Only a God-sized intervention will help!

REFLECTION: “Corrupt practices are the fruit of corrupt principles; and he who is false to his God, will not be true to his fellow mortals.”—Matthew Henry
