The other day(literally day, as I sleep mostly then lately,) just as I was about to drop off I got a phone call. I was an in-state number, out of our area code, so the likelihood that it was a telemarketer was pretty high. It was….sort of.

“Hi, this is Saint Mary’s prayer center, and we are just calling to see if you have any urgent prayer requests! If you do, press(some number,) and a team member will pray for you.”

Now, I have no clue what that was really about, as I simply hung up. Not that I don’t have urgent prayer requests, as I have piles of those. You name it, and it is probably a need in my life now.

Not that I don’t want others praying for me because I do! In fact, we are told this:

James 5:16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Look, I don’t know who is righteous, so I want some prayer volume from my friends!

I certainly don’t need any Saint intervening for me, or speaking on my behalf. Jesus has got this.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Mostly, I was pretty sure that ultimately, they were actually just trying to sell me something.

It actually did accomplish something, though. It reminded me that my Lord does want my prayers and that I had been somewhat remiss in submitting them in our time of need. Ouch.

1 Thessalonians 5:17  Pray without ceasing.

Without ceasing? Sometimes I forget to pray at all. Shame on me.
