The Condemnation of the World
“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God,” John 3:19-21.
Jesus had just taught Nicodemus that He had come into the world not to condemn the world but to rescue it. He said that everyone who believed in Him would be saved and avoid condemnation, but everyone who did not believe in Him stood condemned already. (Read John 3:17, 18.) Jesus taught the doctrine of total hereditary depravity, namely, that everyone inherits the sin nature from birth and stands in need of rescue through faith in Jesus Christ. Those who refuse to trust in Christ remain in the state of condemnation. In the state of condemnation, everyone only performs evil deeds, hiding from the light of God lest they be found out. However, those who repent and believe come to the Light through faith in Jesus Christ and draw near to God with a new heart.
Have you been rescued by the Light of the gospel Jesus Christ? Have you shared the gospel with the people closest to you? The world needs to understand that refusing to repent and trust in Jesus will curse them to remain in a state of condemnation by God. What the world needs is deliverance which is only found in the person of Jesus Christ. If you are a child of God, come and dwell in the Light, and push back the darkness.
JUST A THOUGHT: Do not love the darkness, but love the Light.
