It’s like something Agent X said: “Us old folx like to cite the case of prayer being taken out of school, and I have no doubt that is a benchmark in the progression we talk about, but I donβt see it as a cause. I see it as a symptom.” The symptoms will be resolved when we get to the root of the problem…thanks for sharing! Oh, and a “Yep”….
Thanks pastor Randy. Yes! That is is exactly. All of these things are just symptoms, and never address the root issue. The question for us as Christians is why do we get so wrapped up in the symptoms?
Ok as I have suggested Christians should be on the gun control wagon I will explain from an observersβ point of view as someone who lives outside of your country in one of the safest developed countries in the world.
Politics and religion are more intertwined in North America than in any other Christian based country. Your politicians do not get any votes and are booted out if they do not declare they are Christians and there are many lobby groups who are religiously motivated and are Donald Trumpβs core voters. Many financial donors are Christian groups and individuals (including maybe the Russians).
For the good of your country and for the benefit of the American people, especially the school children, what other groups of people are so high in numbers and would be morally motivated towards a safe and peaceful environment as much as loving and caring Christians?
What is the logic when Christians rise up against abortion, however do not say boo when the kids in a school are mowed down?
It appears that the love of guns has outweighed the love of God, in America.
I think the post mentions βgun lawsβ does it not Wally?
Anyway, I figure whatever I wrote will not make sense to anybody who is on this site, especially if they are American gun owners and in fact nobody would have any real answers, so letβs just wait for the next mass killing.
Point one. You, along with most of the atheists evangelists, have repeatedly spoken out against Christians attempting to impose(as you say) Christian values on secular laws. That is fact. You have said it often.
Point two. You, at least, clearly believe support for gun control is or should be a Christian position. This is how I know this.
“as I have suggested Christians should be on the gun control wagon”
“It appears that the love of guns has outweighed the love of God, in America”
Clearly you believe this to be true. The evidence of this is that..um..you said so.
Point three. You, along with your atheists evangelists friends, have spent much time up in arms railing against Christians(using our own faith as a bludgeon) for not getting on this “gun control wagon.” Again your words.
Point 4. Reference back to point one.
Point 5. You don’t get it both ways.
That’s just stupid.
Now you understand the post. Address it or move on. Or continue to look stupid, I really don’t care LOL.
I agree that Christian pressures on secular laws are not desirable such as school science curriculums and marriage laws, however as it also happens Christians are very committed in changing the laws governing abortion, therefore it appears Christian groups are only politically active on morality issues when it suits them.
What is the difference here? The gun laws should naturally have become a morality issue for large passively natured religious organisations such as Christianity. The silence is deafening.
It appears obvious that gun owning Christians along with the rest of the gun owning population, the NRA and gun manufacturers do not want to give up their guns and memberships or stop making money by producing them for the public good. The latest shooting will just become another statistic that will be superseded in the near future.
β therefore it appears Christian groups are only politically active on morality issues when it suits them.β
Why do you call this EXTRA stupid? Abortion is regarded as a life and death issue is it not, and obviously gun controls are about rectifying a life and death situation, so what is the huge difference for Christian morality?
But it is just two quotes that seem designed to insult.
What do you as an individual think should be done to at least try to stop such senseless mass shootings in the future?
Hypothetically, if you had carte blanche right now, what would you ask the lawmakers to do?
If I’d pasted it all I still donot see what exactly you are getting at. Maybe this is a cultural American thing, Wally, but it’s going right over my head. For the sake of brevity. Yes, I must be as thick as two short planks today.
What the heck am I amissing here?
Take all the time you need, really. I’ll be out for a bit. I’m the environmental control guy down at the church. In other words I run the heat on. Gotta make sure the kids rooms are comfortable ya know.
Okay, I just read your dialogue with Randy.
This is about symptoms, it seems. Yes?
Fair enough. And what do you think is the symptom, and how do you personally believe is the best way to make an inroad to sorting it out?
If I’d pasted it all I still do not see what exactly you are getting at. Maybe this is a cultural American thing, Wally, but it’s going right over my head. For the sake of brevity, Yes, I must be as thick as two short planks today.
What the heck am I amissing here?
Well let me see.
The first quote, what exactly are Christians trying to do to influence secular law? I have little knowledge of what happens on a day to day basis in the US in this regard and I don’t generally follow politics down here either.
Are Christians trying to get the law changed in some way in the US to favour Christianity?
I have never ever lectured you on politics. What on earth are you talking about?
Unless you are referring to keeping religion out of things like local councils and schools etc.
So to the quote.
If we are looking at sorting out the root cause .. what is the problem we have to root out?
Oh, for goodness sake, Liar? Again? Really?
What was the political topic I have lectured you on …
Ask any of the regulars on your side and mine how much political content there is on my blog and in my comments.-
If you want to lay this accusation on me then stop messing about and be specific, Wally.
And then explain in simple terms what you are trying to say on the post and you have my word I shall address it.
Ah, right. Then I can only address the first point as your statement: You, at least, clearly believe support for gun control is or should be a Christian position does not apply to me as I think gun control is a National Issue not confined to any one group or demographic, even if it appears that many evangelical christian bloggers on the face of it oppose any sort of gun control.
So, to the first point, and your statement to Steve:
Point one. You, along with most of the atheists evangelists, have repeatedly spoken out against Christians attempting to impose(as you say) Christian values on secular laws. That is fact. You have said it often.
Iere I will agree in part.
I have spoken out, but not often .
However, I am not sure what you mean by ”Christian Values” as I am sure there will a considerable amount of overlapping between you and I, surprisingly enough.
I believe in democracy, freedom of speech, the right to decent health and medical care and as far as I can tell most of what secular humanist stand for especially with regard human rights.
I am in full agreement in all forms of religion being taught as part of the school curriculum but not as a credo (prayer etc) where one religion has privilege over another.
Well this is easy. You either want us to shut up or speak up
It’s very sad that you lack the gumption to back your own beliefs and but back off them when they make you look stupid.
So which is it ark. The post. Do want Christians to shut up or speak up? Or just speak up where it’s in agreement with you and shut up when you don’t like it
Reduce your comment by a few hundred words and make a coherent answer.
Freedom of speech does not mean you have freedom to impose your religious beliefs.
You have no right to demand any form of special privilege just because of your religious beliefs.
Religious beliefs via doctrine/dogma should never be allowed to supersede human rights where lives may be in jeopardy, especially where this involves children. Refusal of blood transfusion on religious grounds for example.
Separation of religion and state is paramount.
That is why the US is a secular nation.
So shout as loud as you want but Creationism is not going to be taught in your schools – or any other one can hope – as far as I am aware.
Itβs very sad that you lack the gumption to back your own beliefs and but back off them when they make you look stupid.
I am an atheist and yes, an anti-theist.
What exactly am I not doing to ”back my beliefs” Wally?
Have a day Ark. You and Steve have proven the atheist world view is incoherent, inconsistent and contradictory. It is base only on the needs and desires of the person articulating it. It is a me based, selfish view. It is stupid.
Sure thing! You did not, you put a bunch of incoherent words down. You KNOW what the point is. Your world view provides no answer to the dilemma, so you think 10,000 words will solve.
Then maybe you should consider your questions again?
Re-read what you wrote to Steve.
I answered the questions. You may not like the answers, but this does not mean I did not answer them.
If you insist, then either change the phrasing of your question/s or recognise that you are indeed, a liar.
Actually, you can speak up all you like as that is the definition of free speech.
But you are not entitled to special privilege because of your particular religious affiliations.
That is why the US is a secular country and not a theocracy.
And consider yourself fortunate this is so.
Not a single one of you have the guts to say what you really believe, which is:
Agree with me or shut up.
Wrong Wally. And you now seem to be going off the rails a bit.
You have never agreed with atheists, and especially me. But that’s okay, I have never said you can’t practice your beliefs.
Just don’t expect to have them foisted upon society in general, and children in particular.
If you think there is anything to my ”agenda” then you are sadly mistaken.
I can’t imagine any of your regulars reading along could see anything else in what I’ve written.
I would say you are more selfish Wally, because Christianity is arguably the largest group of voters in your country. Here is an opportunity for Christianity to show some leadership and shine for once.
Calling people stupid is not going to solve any problems.
Look, Steve, you have missed the point of the post. I have shared with you my personal views on gun control. You have ignored them. Go find somebody else to argue about that with.
On one hand you say Christians should not try to impose Christian morality on secular law.
Now you say we should.
That is in fact, incoherent. It is stupid.
That is the point, and the ONLY point in this post.
You cannot address it because your view is…stupid.
What you mean to say is, agree with me or shut up. That is thought control, and Fascism.
Is it?
You seem to revel in stupidity, Wally. As a young earth creationist it is your ground state of being.
Which comment specifically would you like me to address?
I’m sorry to have said stupid. In this case you are probably just being purposely evasive and possibly on the edge of lying. Stupid was wrong i am sorry
Oh , come on, Wally. I have addressed the comments you directed to Steve and you said this was not the comment.
Just cut to the chase and lay it on the line, please?

And consider yourself fortunate this is so.

Apology accepted.
So, direct me to the precise comment you wish me to address and I shall do so; of this you have my word.

Oh , come on, Wally. I have addressed the comments you directed to Steve and you said this was not the comment.
Just cut to the chase and lay it on the line, please?
