Actually, if that happens, I think it’s our doctrine that’s bad. Good doctrine (Romans 14 as but one example) will ensure this never happens.

That is likely a very true statement, thank you. Some doctrine is actually a necessary part of loving Jesus, that is, if we plan on loving the real Jesus. Thanks Brandon.

Ah, you have just defined the issue with Tenured Pew Sitters…if our doctrine does not start with The Greatest Commandment (Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, mind, soul and strength) and follow up with The Second Greatest Commandment (Love your neighbor as yourself), then the rest of the doctrine becomes flawed, and the slippery slope gets even more slippery! Thanks for sharing!

As you said Wally “Some doctrine is actually a necessary part of loving Jesus”.
You don’t love Jesus if you don’t love His doctrine.
“If you love me, you will keep my Commandments”John 14:15

Thanks Cristina for reading and your thoughts. I think you have just given me the impetus to elaborate a bit on what I meant with that, since it seems to be a topic of some discussion. In our work, we like to fancy ourselves to be quite the guardians of Doctrine, and I think that is an honorable thing. Our Doctrinal Statement is 21 points long, and I believe and teach every single one of them. I also believe that some day we we each be evaluated and rewarded according to the diligence with which we pursued Doctrinal truth. Having said that……
I do believe I know and serve with some who have allowed Doctrine and adherence to it to substitute for what should be their first love, that being Jesus. This was one of the issues Jesus had with the church at Ephesus. I also think some have mistaken understanding and being able to recite and support all doctrinal points for what truly saves us, grace through faith in the work of Jesus Christ; in other words, some have allowed doctrine to become they God they worship rather than our Lord.
Thanks for coming by and blessing to you as well my dear Sister.

I think this happens and people don’t even realize it. Thank you for the reminder to keep our eyes on Jesus and Not the works!

Amen and thanks for coming by. Yes…we don’t even see it when it happens. Good point.
