He said in scripture, “If you come close to Me I will come close to you.” So that makes me think that if we aren’t close to Him then we’re on our own pretty much. Looking to self instead of Him.

I agree totally, Sue. Again, thanks for getting it and the Scripture as well.

Make no mistake, if we allow ourselves to be out of fellowship with God, we put ourselves in danger of being outside of his grace as well. It’s a serious spiritual matter that should not be taken lightly!

I’m curious how you are defining being outside of His grace?

Well, if being out of fellowship with God is the deliberate removal of oneself from that fellowship, I think there’s probably some spiritual issues at play. Its not the lack of the Gospel that condemns one’s soul, but the despising of it. Which would automatically put one outside of His grace. That is not to say that at some point down the road the person could repent and be rejoined to the Body, but while they remain unrepentant they are in a spiritually perilous place.

Ok I just was curious. As I am sure you know if your have read I stand in full support of the eternal security of the believer
You are however totally correct….out of fellowship with God is an extremely perilous place to be.
I’ve not got totally around the bend during my time as a believer but I did seriously disobey once for almost a year over a calling He wanted me to fill about which I did not agree. It was not a good year

I don’t know if we call it eternal security, but we too teach that the believer has full certainty of salvation in Christ. However, we also see evidence from the Scriptures that a Christian can walk away from their faith.

Well yeah Paul descibes making shipwreck if it
Some would say that refers to one losing their salvation. I would not as God keeps His own. I believe this remains true even in the face of some serious rebellion on our part.

Actually I find it very liberating and invigorating – to have to deal with my problems and learn from my experiences without relying on someone or something else to do it for me. Of course it’s not all rainbows and sunshine. It can be downright tough sometimes. But hey, that’s what being an adult is all about isn’t it?
