Oh how true.
It is, and the comments thus far have been amazing. Thanks Don

Hmmmm…I believe I bless God when I love Him and show it by keeping His Commandments but brother Wally, I don’t think I’ve ever earned a blessing. “He causes it to rain on the just and the unjust.” My life is more orderly though when I obey. His principles do work and when I obey and things still go wrong, I know in my heart I’ve done right. That’s so much better than doing wrong and things go wrong and I know I’m getting my just deserts.
Happy Monday, Wally!:0)

Hmmmm….I’m with Mrs. Pam and Deborah Ann on this one. I must ponder it. I understand the intent, but…
“Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” (1 John 3:21-22)

We receive what we want when our wants line up with God’s Will.:0) Otherwise, He says ‘no’ or ‘wait’ or ‘be still and know I’m God!” All of it is for our good and never for our harm.

Bells and whistles and bingo! Thank you Pam. You just said what I meant to say, but didn’t exactly. God will give us every single thing we want if we obey. The key being we will come to want for ourselves what He wants and what we would want if we actually had the good sense to want it.
Bravo to you.

Yeah…we all have different ways of saying the same thing sometimes and if we’re honest and patient with each other, we work through it. Discussion is more fruitful than debate.:0)
March 7, 2016 at 18:21
Agreed. Although I do like a good tussle with some

Well Pam in another life I thought a fist fight was good fun. So our frame of reference is different. I came from the wrong side of the tracks so to speak but Jesus is working on making me a civilized person
March 7, 2016 at 19:02
I was feistier in my younger days too…my husband used to say it was a good thing I’m only five feet tall…he hasn’t said that in a while. I’ve been wanting a quiet, gentle spirit for some time now so, maybe God is finally getting me there.:0)
March 7, 2016 at 19:31
That’s the funny thing, I am only 5 9 myself, hardly a strapping fellow. But I am quite adept at making myself look 6 foot 2. LOL
March 7, 2016 at 16:38
Hey Patrick. I am kind of with them too honestly. I was far from saying that obedience is automatically rewarded with blessings as in Tit for tat. Ha, no Baptist like me would ever lol. I think Pam has captured the real meaning of what I was trying to say in another comment, and I am heading that way now.
March 7, 2016 at 16:35
Happy Monday to you as well Pam. I am actually going to comment to you on another one LOL. It belongs there
That’s fine, Wally. You don’t have to answer me at all if you don’t want to.:0)So, I appreciate it…I guess I’m being a contrarian but I don’t get very aggressive about it. My husband says I’m good at straining his brain…probably, not a very good thing to do on a Monday…
March 7, 2016 at 18:14
That was being contrarian? You gotta try harder than that my sister. You were quite kind and I thank you for the chance to learn something
March 7, 2016 at 18:22
My husband knows the real depths of my contrarian self…but only when he needs it.:0)
March 7, 2016 at 19:32
Well, I am going to side with him on this one. He doesn’t need it. Ha
March 7, 2016 at 22:16
Oh, there are times….he knows he needs it too.:0)

Food for though here . . . must go off and ponder comments too! ~ Blessings ~
I agree Deborah, great food for though. I am pondering as well

I agree with joyindestructable; I also have never earned a blessing. I am aware that long sections of the Bible describe his covenant, which does seem to link obedience to blessings and disobedience to curses. The book of Deuteronomy does this at length. But I live under a new covenant in which Jesus hangs on a tree to remove the curse I deserve; in place of that curse, he gives me the blessings he earned. J.
Hey J. Yep agreed. Surely not thinking here that there is an automatic link. Agree and agree. Still moving to Pams last one, I think it is the key.

That is all. :p

Very pretty! But please join the chat it’s been nice
Okay, I’m game, lol!
I’m okay with saying that there are temporal benefits derived from the spiritual exercise of keeping the commandments.
I’m a little bit wary of the implication of assuming that temporal blessings are proof that God is pleased with us. We don’t keep the commandments to please God, for He is already pleased with us in Christ. We keep the commandments for our own good welfare and that of our neighbour.
Just my two cents…
March 7, 2016 at 18:35
See that was awesome and I really concur. We are pleasing to God because and only because of the finished work of Jesus. He expects to obey certainly and failing to strive for that certainly has consequences. The temporal effect on us can be hard. And of course we all want to hear….well done good and faithful servant when our Lord greets us as we enter His Heaven.
Well said thanks

Love the discussion, as for me it is all grace. It is grace that a Holy God blesses us with His only Son. Even when I was living in sin God blessed me with life each morning. Even when when I lay dieing in the road God chose to give me healing, that was a blessing on a sin full man. I obey because God loved me first, I obey because I am loved, I obey because I am in love with Him.
My Abba Father bless me each day with His love, with His grace, all I have to do is open my heart and receive it.
Sometimes the world and our flesh give us a mis-understanding of what a blessing really is, as for me it is God’s love and grace. 😍

Amen James thank you.
