Careless soul, oh, heed the warning,
For your life will soon be gone;
Oh, how sad to face the judgment,
Unprepared to meet thy God.
Careless soul, oh, heed the warning,
For your life will soon be gone;
Oh, how sad to face the judgment,
Unprepared to meet thy God.

Here’s the whole song James
Careless soul, why will you linger,
Wand’ring from the fold of God?
Hear you not the invitation?
Oh, prepare to meet thy God.
Refrain:
Careless soul, oh, heed the warning,
For your life will soon be gone;
Oh, how sad to face the judgment,
Unprepared to meet thy God.
Why so thoughtless are you standing,
While the fleeting years go by,
And your life is spent in folly?
Oh, prepare to meet thy God.
Hear you not the earnest pleadings
Of your friends that wish you well?
And perhaps before tomorrow
You’ll be called to meet your God.
If you spurn the invitation
Till the Spirit shall depart,
Then you’ll see your sad condition,
Unprepared to meet thy God.

I’ve lost three immediate family members and my best friend and partner in the last 5 years. Life is too short and therefore full of opportunities, both those that have been missed and yet to be open, to ever shorten them again with the desire to be elsewhere that right here. Even if that means ‘delaying his coming’ or in turn delaying my going. There is simply too much to do, know, learn and experience of this life. All these giving true meaning and purpose to the one short life I’ve been afforded. Good stewardship and thankfulness requires me to not piddle away the time, talents, and treasure I have left on frivolous and ultimately meaningless and non-lasting things. It’s not just from a Christian standpoint that ‘God deserves more’, but that I deserve more and those around me. These kinds of missed opportunities and relationships and family members and experiences quite literally haunt me as I pour over the last few decades of time given to… shall we say ‘other pursuits’ that now seem hollow, self serving and servile… even possibly against the best interests of those things that are truly important, like the ones I’ve mentioned.
I’m sure you might disagree with perhaps some of this but I would hope you’d understand and empathize with at least some as well. enjoy the day wally.
Indeed, prepare to meet our God, with a basket full of a life well lived, not having been afraid and limited by insecurity and fear. -mike

“given to… shall we say ‘other pursuits’ that now seem hollow, self serving and servile… even possibly against the best interests of those things that are truly important, like the ones I’ve mentioned.”
Hi Mike
By that, I assume you mean your Christian ministry? If that is the case, then yes I disagree.
Not only that, but you are incorrect in what you say. This life is not about us. We only breathe our next breath because God sees fit to allow it. We exist merely for his honor and glory. It is a wonderful mark of His love that He gives us things which make us happy.
So, yes I disagree and just want to point out to readers to ignore efforts by any person trying to teach them that there are things in life more important than Jesus, because that is an error and is incorrect and is, in fact, false teaching.
Now, Mike, here is your dilemma. You detest moderation or editing, but you also continue to come to my blog and undermine basic Christian thought. So, I either delete, moderate, or ignore you. And unfortunately I cannot allow comments such as you have made to stand unanswered.
Oh..and gosh Mike, if you are gonna call me out by referencing my post, at least have the gumption to do it by name.
So..your choice. Come here and here truth. Stay away and have peace.
Peace Mike.

I chose my words very carefully not to cross the line and draw some the distinctions you have filled in. I thought i was being respectful and taking due discretion when relating my thoughts. But it is your blog and you are free do to what you wish. And I actually did use your name in the contents of both my comment on your blog and translated that to the post I created on mine. I just didn’t supply the link to yours. Mostly because it didn’t include any of your post ot thoughts.
Enjoy the day, wally

Well Mike you did cross the line. It appears you are attempting to teach that it is ok to put other things ahead of God. That is incorrect and false. Peace

Selwyn Hughes, the author of the widely read devotional, Every Day With Jesus, commented just before he died that if he had his life again he would have devoted more time to his family and less to Christian Ministry.
He realised this might seem shocking to some of his readership, but he did not recoil from this conclusion. In some ways it reflected the pain felt by a man who had seen his wife and two sons die before he did. He was not always there for his family when they needed him.

Hi Peter, good to see you again. Would you find it odd that I agree with that sentiment? I would agree 100 percent that any person, even one called by God to some work, is also expected to care for and tend to his family. Thanks for coming by again!

Hi Wally, let us celebrate we agree on some matters.
Though there are some Gospel verses that challenge the view in my earlier post:
If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters–yes, even their own life–such a person cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26)
Most Biblical Scholars argue that Jesus was using hyperbole to emphasise a point, much like when he talked about cutting off one’s hand or plucking out one’s eye. Unfortunately throughout history some people have not understood this until too late. Origin and St Jerome being allegedly two such folk who apparently emasculated themsleves.

Yes, it is good to sort of at least mildly agree LOL. I just want to reinforce the idea, though, that even though I stand by my thoughts that our families matter hugely, we are still expected to place Jesus at the top of the things which matter to us.
Peace and blessings

Wally, I can’t believe you wrote that to someone who at least shares or has shared your beliefs. You have never been so judgemental against me, yet you know I have no belief. m&b has told you about a number of personal close recent deaths and all you can do is criticise that comment for undermining Christian thought.
Seriously, where is your empathy as a person, let alone as a Christian? Do you see how harsh and unforgiving your comments read? Let me translate:
‘Suck it up. God knows best. Who cares who died.’
Because really, that is how it sounds.

Kate, you know nothing about conversations that have taken place. Yes, I try to be kind to you. Your lack of belief does not make it ok for me to be mean to you. But Mike is a different story and one you are not familiar with. Sorry you had to see that.

I invite roughseas to read my own words directly, here and on my own blog, to determine what sort I am without the ‘filter’ of wally’s interpretation of who I am.
and though I don’t feel victimized (sadly, par for the course), thank you for your kind defense and call for empathy. it seems only those who agree with wally or at least aren’t very vocal about their disagreements are afforded that honor. not only here but in other blogs that ‘name the name of Christ’.

Mike, that is a falsehood and a misrepresentation. I perfectly well tolerate disagreement. You know what it is that I won’t tolerate. Please, Mike either quite coming here and picking fights, or I will have to ignore future comments, You offer me alternatives that are not acceptable to anybody
I can moderate you, but that drives you and your buddies into a frenzy.
I can edit, but likewise.
I can respond and counter your constant attacks on faith, but that is unloving and you say I taunt and bully you.
Or, I can just let you say whatever you want and give you free rein to act as you wish. Not going to happen, Mike.
My interpretation of you is correct Mike. You claim to be Christian, and maybe you are. But your clear goal is to drive people away from faith. Don’t do it here.
Kate, if you find my conduct with MIke offensive, then don’t look. Sorry, friend.
Again, Mike if you don’t like what I say, don’t come around.
And that last statement Mike? What other Christian blogs have I ever been on having conflict? Oddly, you are the only “Christian” I have conflict with. And that is because you are a dangerous man, MIke.
Tired of this yet? I am. So either quit coming by or change your tune.

@ M&b I’ve seen you around elsewhere and visited your (confusing!) blog. I don’t have an issue with who you are.
@ Wally. Yes, I won’t look. I’m sorry about that. I’d hoped we had established some sort of middle ground between atheist and Christian to be able to talk and discuss whatever.
But I really can’t stand by and see someone, who shares your religion, being disrespected like this.
Maybe you should have a sticky saying ‘only like-minded people are welcome here’.
Laters Wally. This is why your religion is wrong. You put it before people.
